How far can you travel for an interpreting or a consulting session?

Where possible , sessions can be done online using Zoom, Teams or any platform. I can also travel and work anywhere in the U.K and in Europe. Please refer the mileage rate and expenses by clicking here

Can I use any bilingual person to do interpreting including clients’ friends and family

The short answer is “no”. You might think that it’s easier to ask a friend or family member to help interpret important information, and I agree this seems like the simplest and quickest option. Unfortunately this can bring a range of issues and it is much safer to use a regulated interpreter. Even a person with excellent English skills may not be able to understand health-related information very well or technical words when it is a criminal case for example. This can create gaps in the information shared and increase the likelihood of something going wrong.

Why are the rates not set rates on your website?

The rates are set as guidelines. I am happy to help you in last minute bookings which requires a bespoke quotation depending on the urgency of the session.

What can I learn with the training provided by SG Languages consulting?

Have you ever had experiences where you felt some “indirectness” with the client? Have you ever felt that the conversation was taking longer than it should do with no idea what is said between the interpreter and the limited English speaker? This should not happen with an experienced and regulated interpreter.

Together we will identify how to recognise a good interpreter and what criteria should you look at to get the best one. I will provide you with practical advice around communicating with the help of an interpreter.
